MANOMETER :- U-TUBE MANOMETER

(FLUID MECHANICS OR HYDRAULICS)

U-TUBE MANOMETER

In Case of U-tube manometer, a U-tube shape transparent tube is used for measuring the pressure of liquid flowing through a pipe.

This type of manometer is used to measure high pressure. This type of manometer is used to measure gauge pressure or positive pressure and Vacuum pressure or Negative pressure. In this type of manometer heavy liquid (Mercury) is used as a medium which helps to measure the pressure of a liquid which is flowing through the pipe.

In U-tube Manometer, the heavy liquid is used as a medium having high specific gravity in comparison to the other fluid whose pressure is to be measured and which is flowing through the pipe.

Gauge Pressure :

In case of Gauge pressure, the heavy fluid medium rises in the right limb or column or transparent tube from the left limb.

As shown in figure below:-

Figure: Gauge Pressure

The Derivation of the Gauge Pressure or positive pressure are discussed in the Video whose link are as given below.

Vaccum Pressure:

In case of Vaccum pressure the heavy fluid medium rises in the left limb or column or transparent tube and the right limb is empty as shown in figure below:-

The Derivation of Vacuum pressure Manometer or Negative Pressure are discussed in the video whose link are as given below.
