(FLUID MECHANICS OR HYDRAULICS)
BOURDON TUBE PRESSURE GAUGE
A mechanical device which is used to measure pressure of a fluid at a point in a pipe is known as Bourdon tube pressure gauge.
The main parts of the Bourdon tube pressure gauge are as given below:-
1] Graduated Scale
6] Small shaft
8] Bourdon tube
The constructional diagram of Bourdon tube pressure gauge are as given below.
WORKING OF BOURDON TUBE PRESSURE GAUGE
-It was invented by Eugene Bourdon in the year 1849.
-It is used to measure high as well as low pressure.
-It is also known as Elastic type pressure transducer.
-The tube wall will have a thickness between 0.01 mm and 0.05 mm
-For low pressure measurement, tubes are generally made of Bronze.
-For High pressure measurement, tubes are generally made of nickel steel.
-Other material used for tube are :- phosphor-bronze, silicon bronze, Beryllium-copper, Inconel and other C-Cr-Ni-Mo alloys.
